Russia’s Defense Ministry has announced that they’re pulling back troops from two areas in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region. The announcement comes after a Ukrainian counteroffensive has made significant advances in the past week.
In a statement, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the troops regrouped from the Balakliya and Izyum areas. Konashenkov added, "the move is being made in order to achieve the stated goals of the special military operation to liberate Donbas." It should be noted that Konashenkov did not mention the Ukrainian counteroffensive in the region.
In a statement two days ago, Ukrainian President Zelensky said they had recaptured over 386 square miles of land.
